Who is Nang Noppamas? What role does she play in the history of Loy Krathong festival?
Some people believe that she was a royal consort during the Sukhothai era, whom creates the first krathong offering to the Sukhothai’s king. And others believe that she was just a fictional character created to promote the beauty and manners of Thai women.
Which still remains as today’s true message behind the Loy Krathong festival. The contestants for Nang Noppamas award, usually dresses in traditional Thai silk-costume. The contestants must show her skills in traditional arts, such as Thai dancing and music, as a way to present the Thai culture to the new younger generation.
