Becoming the consumerism because of PROPAGANDA !

Nattrakamol Chotevichean Nov 24, 2009

"Consumerism" is another way to make a market growth with the consumption.

The investors use propaganda in advertising, making good brand to bamboozle and advertising more and more.

Then, the consumers will absorb the advertising that they may have seen and have heard everyday, seems like watering the tree and fertilizing it, and it will grow up with these as the human. In my opinion, it is nonsense to work all week for buy something in higher cost. If it is not necessary for my life, saving money is better. You can buy the same thing in lower cost, if you choose to buy something because the brand image, you might absolutely be consumerist.

In Thailand, you can see the propaganda on television or brochures. For instance, domestic produced skin care and imported skin care, in which their advertisements are quite similar in presentation, but why some people choose an expensive one although they may have similar qualification. Some consumers decide to buy something because of branding, packaging, etc. Maybe it is their happiness in consumption.

I have observed these show us behaviors and trends happen such as the consumption of food or fashion, as becoming new culture while the old culture have deteriorated and might lost in someday. People's mind has been controlled by the propaganda. It is a result from the capitalism, the main factor for the competitive business.

Nut- This is a very thoughtful article. I appreciate that you can see through the veneer of consumer advertising and propaganda and how it manipulates us.
Capitalism is such a tricky term because it encompasses so much. It can be the woman down the street who grows and sells her own fruit or the corporate a$$hole who pollutes rivers and doesn't let ethics and morals get in the way of his/her making money. So when we talk about capitalism and how destructive it is, those in power can say, "So, Martha shouldn't be able to grow and sell her own fruit?". It sort of puts the dialogue in a deadlock because both those ways of making money are put into the same category, when they very much are not. Yet, we don't have different words to describe those two contexts. This suggests that language is used as a form of controlling people because if the terms we use don't accurately describe what we want to say, then we can't really discuss it in meaningful ways. This only maintains the dominant class' power in society. Exactly what they want. Signed- your revolutionary teacher 555
